    Background

Transferrin (TF) is the major iron-containing protein in plasma. It not only participates in iron transport and metabolism, respiratory processes, cell proliferation, and immune system regulation, but also possesses antioxidant and bactericidal functions, and is widely used in cell culture. Transferrin exists in three forms: apo (iron-free), holo (saturated with two iron ions), and partially saturated. This product is a recombinant human transferrin expressed and purified from Pichia pastoris using genetic recombination technology. It does not contain animal-derived components, carries no risk of blood-borne virus infection, and has high batch-to-batch stability. This product is holo-transferrin, i.e., in the iron-saturated state. In addition to its transferrin function, it can serve directly as an iron source for cells, eliminating the need for exogenous iron supplementation in culture media.

    Directions for Use

This product is in lyophilized powder form. It is recommended to reconstitute at room temperature with sterile water, PBS, or other suitable buffer to prepare a stock solution at 0.5–2.0 mg/mL.

After complete dissolution, filter-sterilize using a 0.22 μm sterile membrane filter. The filtered stock solution can be stored under aseptic conditions at 2–8°C and is recommended to be used within 30 days. After aliquoting, the product is stable at -20°C for 1 year. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Further dilute as needed before adding to culture medium according to the specific culture system requirements.

Optimal transferrin concentration may vary across different cell types and culture systems. Optimization and validation based on specific culture processes and experimental objectives are recommended.

    Transport & Storage

    Ice pack transport.

Store at 2–8°C, protected from light, sealed, and moisture-proof. Shelf life: 5 years. After reconstitution, stable at 2–8°C for 30 days; after aliquoting, stable at -20°C for 1 year.

    Applications

ART202S Recombinant Human Holo-Transferrin serves as a critical iron transport component in serum-free, low-serum, and chemically defined (CD) media, widely applicable to mammalian cell culture and biopharmaceutical process development.

Applicable cell types include but are not limited to:

    • CHO cells, HEK293 cells, and other engineered cells

    • Hybridoma cells

    • Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC)

    • Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC)

    • Embryonic stem cells (ESC)

    • Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC)

    • NK cells, T cells, and other immune cells (CAR-T/NK      manufacturing)

Holo-Transferrin directly serves as a cellular iron source — binding to the cell surface TfR1 receptor and releasing iron ions via the endocytic pathway, supporting cell proliferation, metabolism, and antioxidant defense. A key distinction from traditional transferrin: it eliminates the need for additional iron supplementation in culture media, reducing culture system complexity. Suitable for protein expression, antibody production, stem cell culture, and immune cell process development applications.

    Precautions

    • This product is intended for research, process development, and biomanufacturing use only. Not for diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical use in humans or animals.

    • Use the product as soon as possible after opening. Unused portions should be promptly sealed and stored under recommended conditions.

    • Handle reconstituted solutions under aseptic conditions to avoid microbial contamination.

    • Aliquot for single-use storage to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles that may compromise product activity.

    • Optimal transferrin concentration requirements may vary across different cell types and culture systems. Determine optimal usage conditions through preliminary experiments tailored to the specific cell type and culture process.

    • Read the product technical datasheet carefully before use and follow relevant experimental protocols.
